There are a lot of vitamins and minerals (and other things such as fiber, essential amino acids, etc.) that you need on a daily basis.
It's very hard to eat the right variety of food every day to get all those things.
So its easier to take the short cut and make sure you get what you need by taking vitamins and other supplements.
Here is what I'm taking.
- Daily Multi-Vitamin (such as Centrum... but I bought some from Costco)
- Calcium & Magnesium
- L-Lysine (not really necessary since the whey protein powder I have has about 4 times the amount of this anyway)
- Soya Lecithin
- Fish Oil (softget)
- Flaxseed Oil (softgel) - which you have to keep in the fridge
- Metamucil Fiber Powder (which I use on days that I don't think I'm getting enough fiber)
I mentioned all this to my doctor and he seemed happy with it. Combined with cereal, milk, a banana, some baby carrots, and an apple, I'm pretty much covered for the day.
