Now, this is more like it, yeah, a man's activity, lifting weights! Yeah!
Actually, it is a nasty misconception that people think its for guys only, and women shouldn't do it if they are trying to lose weight.
Did you know that your muscle burns calories all the time, even while you sleep? So now you know why increasing muscle mass is an important part of any weight loss program. Besides, increasing muscle mass is another way to decrease your body fat percentage.
In the past, even when doing 800-1000 calorie workout every day for 30-60 days straight (10 years ago), I did not lose any weight because at the same time, I was doing lots of weight lifting and gaining muscle mass. This time again, I am doing weights from the beginning, and believe strongly in the benefits of doing so, even though weight loss may be more difficult. The number on the scale is really a secondary goal and thats why I didn't want to really have a weight loss goal at all but talking about it does give me motivation to try harder. If I do lose weight then I know the muscle mass will help to keep it off. Plus, it will be fun to bench press girls in bikini's - oh wait, that's in a parallel universe. (And its what Arnold did, before he became the Governor of Calfornia.)
